American Idol has launched the careers of some of music’s most popular contemporary acts. Jennifer Hudson didn’t win the show, in spite of this she has since gone on to win a Grammy as well as an Academy Award. Chris Daughtry formed the band Daughtry, who’ve toured the world performing to sold out crowds.
And then there’s Adam Lambert. The star became a household name after appearing on the hit show in 2009. He, like Hudson and Daughtry, didn’t win the show, but has since gone on to became a global icon. His debut album sold over 190 000 copies in its first week of release. The album also scored him a Grammy nomination and the opportunity to headline his own tour.
After all the success of his debut, the star took some time out to focus on his new offering. The result is Trespassing, a twelve track album. He enlisted the help of Pharrell Williams of N.E.R.D fame and Australian star Sam Sparro on several tracks. His efforts clearly paid off as the album reached the number one spot in its first week of release, making this his first number one album.
DStv.com’s Jason Von Berg caught up with Lambert who was in London to find out more about the album. Have a listen to the interview below:
